Katherine Fraser

"My paintings depict moments of quiet reflection and insight, of wonder, vulnerability, yearning, determination, humility, strength, and growth. I see a duality in every moment, and beauty in the tension of opposing emotions existing in a single facial expression. As every person, and every experience is multifaceted, every painting is meant to express a dimensional idea. I am fascinated by the mutability of memory, by the way emotions can shape perception, and the way we unconsciously create narratives to understand our experience and explain our identities.

I paint out of my sincere desire to respect, express, and share the tender qualities that unite us. Compassionately and with a generous heart, I seek to portray our continual need to reckon expectations with truth, and the struggles we endure to feel satisfaction with our choices. My goal is not just to make aesthetically beautiful paintings, but to create works that touch and resonate with the complexity of real world experience."

Katherine Fraser has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States. She is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and of the University of Pennsylvania. She has received the Thomas Eakins Painting prize, the Cecelia Beaux Portrait prize, the William Emlen Cresson Memorial Travel Award, the Lucy Glick Award, and the Victor Klein Family Award, among others. Her work has been published in Studio Visit Magazine, Philadelphia Weekly, Die Blumen die Frauen, The Fertile Source, New American Paintings, The Southern Review, the Best of American Oil Painting, and more. Her work may be found in many permanent and private collections nationally and abroad.

Sarah Detweiler

Sarah Detweiler is a Philadelphia area-based visual artist translating her experiences as a mother into figurative and narrative paintings with hand embroidery. She has a BFA in Visual Communications from University of Delaware and a master's degree in Art Therapy from Pratt. Detweiler has shown her work in solo and group exhibits in galleries across the country. Most notably, her “Hidden Mother” series sold out in two exhibitions with Paradigm Gallery in Philadelphia. Sarah’s work has been published in Hi-Fructose, Create, Artit, MILKED, and Uppercase Magazines, and featured on art blogs including Colossal and The Jealous Curator. She has also been interviewed for multiple art podcasts including The Jealous Curator’s podcast, Art For Your Ear. Sarah's current work centers around themes of motherhood, nostalgia, and childhood memories.

Peri Law

Peri Law is an artist, educator, and organizer based in Philadelphia. Her work reflects her multiracial heritage, recreating domestic scenes and appropriating institutionalized objects to reflect the global imperialism that soaks her bloodline. Her art is heavily influenced by the art historical canon, utilizing printmaking to imagine traditional Asian art through the lens of the contemporary diaspora and visualize queer liberated futures. She graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BFA in Studio Art and Art History. She is an organizer in Philadelphia’s Asian America community and an executive board member of The Soapbox Community Print Shop. She is a recent recipient of the Velocity Fund, the 2025 Wind Challenge, and a finalist for the Print Center’s 99th Annual International Competition. Her art has been exhibited throughout the United States, including at the Way Center (Philadelphia, PA), Fleisher Art Memorial (Philadelphia, PA) Woskob Family Gallery (State College, PA), Charlotte Street Foundation (Kansas City, MO), Kent State University (Kent, OH), VAE Raleigh (Raleigh, NC), and the Levine Museum of the New South (Charlotte, NC) and is in the collection of the Library of Congress.

Elizabeth Bergeland

Elizabeth Bergeland (b. 1983 in Wyoming/Colorado, USA) is a Philadelphia‑based painter whose visually rich work blends figurative realism with surreal or imagined spaces. Her symbolic and emotionally resonant paintings reflect deeply personal themes such as connection, doubt, and the passage of time.

Bergeland earned a BFA in Painting and Anthropology from the University of Colorado in 2006 and later relocated to Philadelphia, where she now works and lives with her husband and three children.

Her paintings often dramatize modern existential fears- feelings of being overwhelmed by productivity, digital demands, and the weight of womanhood and motherhood. A recurring narrative in her work involves sunburns as metaphorical markers of worry, and gestural imagery, like tagged chickens or reaching hands that underscore the tensions between connection and solitude.

Bergeland’s first solo exhibition, Quiet Boy, debuted at Hotbed Gallery in Philadelphia in 2022. She was spotlighted in the 2024 edition of the SPRING/BREAK Art Show, presented her 2025 solo exhibition While You Were Sleeping at Studio 105 at Ray, and will mount her first museum solo exhibition in 2026 at the Delaware Contemporary Art Museum. Her work has also been featured in publications such as Smithsonian Magazine, Create Magazine, Philadelphia Magazine, Friend of the Artist, 1st Look TV, Root Quarterly, and The Visionary Projects.

She is also an acclaimed illustrator of children’s books, having illustrated Being Edie is Hard Today (2019) and The Great Whipplethorp Bug Collection (2021). The latter was awarded a Kirkus Star, received an NPR review, and was listed among Smithsonian Magazine’s “10 Best Children’s Books of 2021.” Her illustrations are part of the Society of Illustrators Museum’s permanent collection.

About Paradigm Gallery + Studio
Paradigm Gallery + Studio® was established in 2010 by co-founders and curators Jason Chen and Sara McCorriston. The gallery exhibits meaningful, process-intensive contemporary artwork by emerging and mid-career artists from around the world, with a focus on Philadelphia. In 2023, Paradigm moved locations and opened its new 5-story, 7,000 sq. ft. home, The Paradigm Arts Building, in Old City, Philadelphia.
