Nothing Up My Sleeve

24"h x 12"w

acrylic on board

The paintings Everything Crossed and Nothing Up My Sleeve carry an everydayness to feeling lucky. They represent a tangible, touchable feeling given to school clothes framed by the absence of the body. In each uniform, the exquisite corpse of a lucky shirt or only skirt serves as an embodied vessel across a string of memories—a novelty for moments lost and the comfort against the challenges of change. The works aim to share my peculiar cultural understanding of fortune as remnant articles of clothing from my past, hinting at a luckier time—a reminder of the comforts of belonging.
