Paradigm Gallery + Studio is pleased to present Night, Night, a solo exhibition of new paintings by artist Branche Coverdale. In his second solo exhibition with the gallery, Coverdale steps into a more expansive role as a storyteller, presenting ten paintings that explore the fantastical and reflective moments that unfold during the quiet hours of the night. The exhibition centers on dreams, out-of-body experiences, and subtle comforts that drift through the subconscious beneath a dark blue sky.

The collection unfolds as an intimate narrative, loosely inspired by Coverdale’s personal experiences and the sensations and tensions that populate his dreams. Figures watch themselves sleep from above, celestial bodies float through star-filled skies, and familiar spaces transform into dreamy landscapes. Through a cool, restrained color palette, Coverdale captures both the calm and the magic of nighttime, creating moments of comfort while also confronting more unsettling experiences such as sleep paralysis and disorienting, maze-like subway stations.

Throughout the exhibition, Coverdale employs the doppelgänger motif as a playful yet poignant invitation to imagine multiple realities coexisting at once. These mirrored figures explore the duality of body and spirit, freedom and constraint, and the sometimes eerie sensation of perceiving oneself from outside the body.

While these quiet, shadowed scenes may appear to depart from Coverdale’s typically bustling cityscapes, Night, Night remains grounded in the same youthful imagination, vivid color sensibility, and stylized figures that define his practice. Drawing inspiration from intimate, everyday moments. Coverdale transforms the nocturnal world into a space that is at once mysterious and introspective in moments of rest and dreaming.

About Branche Coverdale
Branche Coverdale is an artist based in Philadelphia. Originally from Yonkers, New York, Branche works in an expressive and playful manner inspired by silkscreen methods he acquired during his time at Rhode Island School of Design, seamlessly combining cartoons, pop culture, and his experiences in major cities in his playful and vibrant art. In particular, he traveled between New York and Japan for years as a studio assistant for Takashi Murakami.  He celebrates the fusion of these influences, exploring themes such as city life, representation, and the blurred lines between reality and fiction, using iconic symbols that have shaped our collective consciousness. He is currently working as a full-time illustrator as well as working in painting and fine arts.

Recognition and awards include Mural Arts Fellowship for Black Artists (2022), New York Times Best Illustrations (2024), and Best of Philly (2025). Recent commissioned projects include public murals partnering with Living Walls/Adult Swim, Mural Arts at Schuykill Yards, and Global Philadelphia Association. His commercial work spans major editorial projects, including illustrations for the cover of the New York Times Sports section and NYT 30 Daily Spot Illustrations for Page A3.

About Paradigm Gallery + Studio
Paradigm Gallery + Studio® was established in 2010 by co-founders and curators, Jason Chen and Sara McCorriston. The gallery exhibits meaningful, process-intensive contemporary artwork by emerging and mid-career artists from around the world, with a focus on Philadelphia. In 2023, Paradigm moved locations and opened its new 5-story, 7,000 sq. ft. home, The Paradigm Arts Building, in Old City, Philadelphia. Open to the public, the building boasts multiple floors of exhibition space, integrated in-house design and printmaking, a dedicated events floor, and art advisory offices. With this, Chen and McCorriston expanded their vision for the greater Philadelphia arts community. The gallery is at the heart of this vision, anchoring Paradigm’s overall mission of increasing access to the commercial art world, supporting artists and advancing their careers, and collaborating with like-minded partners to build a more equitable, sustainable arts economy for all.
