Ruda is a plant commonly used in Mesoamerica for different treatments, one of them being the “baño de Ruda” which is performed for children by a medicine person to prevent or cure any weakness of energy. How do you know your child needs it? Listen to the elders and they will tell you, my mom and our neighbors in Oaxaca suggested it for our son Luca, the smell of boiling ruda refreshed my childhood memories when I was preparing his baño for three consecutive nights. This might not be a superstition but a tradition that we keep performing, trusting blindly in the knowledge of our elders and the power of a plant.
